Enhancing Functional Safety Through Seamless Structural Coverage: SAFERTOS® and The LDRA tool suite®

In safety-critical software development, every line of code matters, from the thorough testing of all code paths to uncovering untested or dead code. That’s why structural coverage, also known as code coverage, is not just good practice but a core requirement in achieving certification for standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 26262 and DO-178C.

Together, we have integrated SAFERTOS®, our safety-critical RTOS, with LDRA’s TÜV-approved tool suite. This collaboration offers a solution that automates code coverage analysis, reduces the overhead of manual testing, and accelerates the certification process, all while reinforcing reliability and compliance with the most stringent functional safety standards.

LDRA’s Integration With SAFERTOS®

The integration between SAFERTOS® and the LDRA tool suite ensures that embedded developers can:

  • Perform static and dynamic analysis, as well as unit testing and timing analysis, all from within an Eclipse-based development environment.
  • Run the necessary coverage tests on both virtual and physical target hardware.
  • Simplify the path to certification by eliminating the need for labour-intensive manual testing or building in-house tools.

SAFERTOS® is pre-certified by TÜV SÜD and variants are regularly submitted for independent assessment, aligning seamlessly with the TÜV-certified LDRA tool suite.
